1,000 Book Project Update

Submitted by on – No Comment

Attention members of the 1,000 Book Project!

Beginning this January 2017, there is a new procedure in place for checking out the book packs.  Patrons will still use the binder to keep track of what books they have checked out, but will also check out the packs with their Library cards at the circulation desk.

Read below for further details:

  • A valid Mid-Hudson Library System card is needed to check out the book packs. The book packs have Marlboro Free Library (MFL) barcodes.
  • Don’t have a library card? Come to the MFL circulation desk to apply for a library card.
  • Complete a 1000 Book Project form. Insert this into a plastic page protector. File the form alphabetically by your child’s last name in the 1000 Book Project binder.
  • Select your book pack! Mark the number on the chart on your 1000 Book Project form page so that you will know which packs you have already borrowed, and can then see how many you have borrowed.
  • Bring your selection to the circulation desk to check out the pack with your library card.
  • Enjoy the books! Packs are due back at the Marlboro Free Library in 6 weeks   [Please be advised that the MFL will contact you with a reminder to return overdue items.  Ignoring these reminders will lead to a STOP being placed on the library account until the item(s) are returned.]
  • Please return your selection to the MFL circulation desk so it can be checked in (removed) from your library account.
  • When you have finished reading all 100 packs, please notify a MFL staff member so your child can be recognized at a Marlboro Central School District Board of Education meeting.
  • Please notify a MFL staff member if a book is damaged or missing so it can be replaced. You will be billed $50 for missing/damaged red bags.

What is the 1,000 Book Project?

The Project is a special collection of children’s books made available by the Marlboro Faculty Association to distribute within the district! Each bag contains 10 books available for checkout at the circulation desk with a valid Library Card. When finished, return them to the Main Desk and staff will check them in. The books are aimed for children ages 3 through 7. Upon reading 100 bags of books, a child becomes recognized as a “1000 Book Kid” honored by the MCSD Board of Education.  For more information visit: http://mfa1000bookclub.blogspot.com/
