butterfly 2Registration for this program opens February 27, 10am.

Kids!  Join us at the Library on Friday, March 30 at 2pm for Butterflies: Habits and Habitats.   This is a beautiful slide presentation of Eastern butterflies, by Jerry Schneider, creator of the award winning board game: The Butterfly Game. Audiences will learn about the difference between butterflies and moths, where to find butterflies, how to attract butterflies to our gardens, and how to create and maintain butterfly habitat. We will learn interesting butterfly facts and behaviors (did you know that butterflies taste with their feet? Or that the Viceroy butterfly looks like the Monarch and is protected because birds tend to avoid the poisonous and distasteful Monarch?).  We will also look at the amazing Monarch migration!

After the slide show, children will create their own butterfly t-shirts (heavy, 100% cotton) using a combination of fabric dye sprays, plants, and butterfly cut outs. Children may purchase heavy cotton shirts for $4.00 or bring their own.

About the presenter: Jerry Schneider is a former teacher and children’s librarian who invented The Butterfly Game in 2001.  He has presented nature programs in schools and libraries for the past thirteen years throughout the Eastern US.  Jerry is a steering committee member of the Vermont Butterfly Atlas Project, a 5 year study of butterfly populations in Vermont. He lives in Hardwick, Vermont.

Registration for this program opens February 27, 10am.
