Pumpkin Painting

This year the Marlboro Free Library is getting into the fall spirit by having a pumpkin decorating contest. We invite all ages to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. It’s easy and fun for the whole family!

Important Dates
-Entry forms will be available for pickup starting Friday, October 13  Contestants must purchase their own pumpkins for entry.*

-Drop off pumpkins with entry forms during regular library hours from 9:30 am-5 pm on Friday October 20NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

-Judging in library and on Facebook will take place the week of October 23. Winners will be announced at 5pm before the Halloween Party on Friday October 27. (Party from 6-8pm)

-Winners do not have to be present to receive prize and recognition.

Pumpkins MUST BE PICKED UP by Wednesday, November 1 or they will be discarded.

Contest Rules:

-ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS!  Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Carved pumpkins will not be entered into the contest and will be discarded.

-Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character. Entry forms will be available at the circulation desk.

-Let your creativity soar! Pumpkins are to be painted or colored with markers–acrylic paints or permanent markers work best. Watercolors tend to run. Yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, etc. may be used to decorate the pumpkin; paste or glue may also be used.

-Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. We will take your pumpkin and entry form when you drop it off and it will be assigned a number.

-Judging is by popular vote by patrons in the library and on our Kid’s Facebook page (Kids at Marlboro Free Library). Only one vote per category per person.

-A small prize (and bragging rights) will be awarded to the top three entries.

*Limited pumpkins were available on a first come, first served basis, and are now all claimed!  Contestants may purchase their own pumpkins for entry.*
