“SOUND STORIES”
Sound Stories is an exciting new community oral history and public arts project that blends oral histories, original musical composition, and public performance. The project begins in May and culminates in six public sound walks in October, followed by a final community gathering at the Falcon!
What is a sound walk?
- Sound walks are slow, intentional walking experiences that center around listening to our environment
- Sound walks provide opportunities to be present with the sounds around us and deepen our awareness of how sound and listening inform us about our communities and ourselves
- Sound walks can be a form of walking meditation
- Sound walks can be a form of artistic expression
What are the aspects of the project?
Phase 1: oral history gathering with communities of Marlboro and Milton
Phase 2: Local composer, Katie Down of Marlboro creates a soundscore with original music, found sounds, and recorded oral histories to be part of a series of public walking performances
Phase 3: A total of six public walking performances. 4 at the Marlboro Nature Trail and 2 through the hamlet of Marlboro. Final community gathering and celebration with performances and sharing of stories, songs, etc. at the Falcon
How can you get involved?
Participate in the oral history portion as an interviewer or interviewee

- Perform at one or more of the six public sound walks, and/or at the final community gathering at the Falcon
