Hoopla Pricing Update
Hoopla operates on a pay-per-use model, which means the Library is charged each time a patron borrows a title. Recently, Hoopla has raised their prices several times without notifying libraries. For example, an audiobook that once cost the Library $3.99 to lend may now cost $5.99 or more. These increases have made monthly costs difficult for libraries nationwide to predict and sustain.
To keep Hoopla available for everyone, we’ve raised our price cap to a healthy limit, so most titles, as of October 15, 2025, remain accessible. However, a small number of very high-cost titles may still appear as unavailable, and patrons may see a message stating, “Sorry, our lending policy does not allow you to access this title.” Unfortunately, Hoopla does not hide these unavailable titles, which can understandably cause confusion.
Patrons can continue to borrow up to five (5) items per month.
We’re continuing to work with Hoopla to advocate for more transparency and sustainable pricing, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue balancing access, affordability, and fiscal responsibility for our community.
